A private day in Tarangire: two ways to do it

The full day safari with a picnic lunch costs $332 per person. Water and a picnic lunch in the park are included along with entry. It suits two to four friends or a family who want elephants, baobabs and a long day on the track, with no stops to wait for other passengers.

The Suzuki Vitara day costs $370 per person and takes up to two people. It is a 10 hour day with hotel pickup, driver-guide, water, lunch and park entry. That is $740 for a couple, $38 more per person than the full day safari above. Choose it as a pair who prefer a smaller car and a window each; choose the 4x4 with pop-up roof for a bigger party.

Two days with the Ngorongoro Crater

The two day safari to Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater costs $542 per person, reduced from $570. It starts at your Arusha hotel around 7 a.m. for a private departure and includes a 4x4 with pop-up roof, guide, all Tarangire park entry, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and crater fees, one night, and lunch, dinner and breakfast. It can be booked privately or by joining a group. It is the shortest way to add a second park without planning your own route, and it suits first-time visitors who want one night away.

Three days with lodge nights

The three day options start in Arusha with a private vehicle. The family safari costs $950 per person for three days and two nights, with park and conservation fees, meals from the itinerary, a professional guide and water. The premium lodge safari costs $1,147 per person with a pop-up roof 4x4, premium lodge accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner, picnic lunches on game drives and entrance fees. The Big Five safari with lodging costs $1,450 per person and includes a private 4x4, driver-guide, lodge nights, meals and park fees.

Private or small group: when sharing is better

The Tarangire day trip for elephants and baobabs costs $294 per person, which is $38 less than the full day private safari and $76 less than the Suzuki Vitara day. It runs 12 hours in a Land Cruiser with pop-up roof, collects you at your Arusha accommodation and includes lunch; you can choose a private vehicle or a small group of up to seven.
